MICR toner contains iron oxide so that the numbers along the bottom of a check can be read magnetically by bank sorting equipment, which ordinary black toner cannot do. These Apple cartridges are the MICR versions of standard laser supplies, carrying part numbers such as M2045G/A, M2437G/A and M3602G/A. If your printer is used for anything that has to clear a bank, MICR is the cartridge you need rather than a regular black one.
Apple M-Series MICR Part Numbers
Apple laser supplies use an M prefix followed by four digits and sometimes a /A suffix, as in M5893G and M6003G. The suffix distinguishes packaging or regional revisions of the same cartridge, so record the full code when you note it down.
